Well Friends, what a wonderful AGM we had once again, this December.
Thanks to all of you who came from far and wide. It is always appreciated how many of you come along to attend the important AGM, and to join us in our talks and get together.
The Friends AGM is held each year at The Wellington Hotel, in Boscastle Harbour, Cornwall – many thanks must go to the staff there for always being so welcoming .
This year was especially exciting, as we had the pleasure to welcome Maxine Sanders ‘In Conversation’ on Saturday afternoon.
Before she took the ‘chair’, we also had the wonderful Geraldine Beskin, from Atlantis Bookstore, ( incidentally – the Oldest Occult Bookshop in London) who gave us a wonderful talk on ‘The Dark Side of Christmas’.
Jason Karl, Trustee and Friend to the Museum for many years, MC’ed events and took the role of host to ask Maxine the questions that had been posed by some of the Friends.
In my next blog post, I will share these with you in question and answer form, however, we were also lucky enough to have the whole interview with Maxine videoed – and we will share this too once it has been sent to us.
Following lunch we set down to the business in hand – the Annual General Meeting.
Simon Costin ( Director of the Museum ) and Judith Hewitt ( Manager of the Museum along with Peter Hewitt ) started off with an update on all that had been happening at the Museum throughout the season, and filled us in on forthcoming events, workshops, exhibitions and all manner of great things.
Keep watching the Friends Facebook page for regular updates on all these next year. The link to all our social media platforms are on the home page at the bottom.
The entirety of the minutes will be posted on here in due course, but one of the things discussed which was of great importance to myself is that we have voted unanimously in favour of ‘upgrading’ this free WordPress blog to a much better website which will incorporate many, much needed features. More on that soon Friends.
Another landmark event was that the Friends celebrated 20 years since its conception and founder members, Judith Noble ( Secretary ) and Emma Chopping ( Membership Secretary) were on hand to receive a specially commissioned piece by Paul Atlas – Saunders. Simon Costin ( Director of The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic ) was also gifted one by the Friends to display in the Museum.
Following the AGM, some of us convened to the bar in the ‘Welly’ and caught up. New friends were made and old ones who could not be there, remembered.
In Part Two, I’ll share with you the questions and answers from our In Conversation with Maxine Sanders.
In the meantime, remember, you can join Friends on our ‘Join’ page. We really do appreciate all your continued support.
